Available in: Premium. Without Premium the section still explains what Game State Integration is, but you cannot create an access.
Game State Integration, usually shortened to GSI, is the way CS2 tells another program what is happening in your match while you play. You put one small text file into your CS2 folder, and from then on the game itself sends the round, the score, your health and a few more values to FACEITSync. It is an official Valve feature: nothing reads the game from outside, and nothing inside CS2 is changed.
Set it up in four steps
Step 4 is the one people skip, and it is why the status stays grey for most first-timers. CS2 reads the file only when it starts.
- Open the page. In your dashboard, click Settings in the left sidebar, then CS2 & GSI. If you use the FACEITSync Connect app for Windows, read The one-click way with FACEITSync Connect below instead - it writes the file for you, and you only have to restart CS2 afterwards.
- Create an access. Click New token and give it a name, for example gaming PC. The name is only for you, so that you can tell two computers apart later.
- Get the file into your CS2 folder. The new row has two download buttons. Config file downloads
gamestate_integration_faceitsync.cfg, which you copy into...\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\game\csgo\cfg\. Installer downloads a small.cmdfile that searches the usual Steam folders and writes it for you. - Restart CS2 and let it reach the main menu. The status line at the top of the section changes to Connected - Receive live data within a minute or so.
There is no save button on this page. Creating an access and revoking one take effect immediately.
The one-click way with FACEITSync Connect
FACEITSync Connect is the free Windows app. It writes the file itself, so you download nothing and open no folder.
- Open Connect and click the button at the top right of the window - a gear before you are signed in, your avatar afterwards. That opens the app settings.
- Choose CS2 integration and click Install in CS2.
- Restart CS2. Check connection in the same place tells you whether data is arriving.
Connect creates its own access for that PC, listed in your settings as Connect plus the device name, so you always know which file belongs to which machine. If CS2 sits somewhere unusual, or is installed twice, use Choose folder and point Connect at the cfg folder yourself. Remove deletes the file again and switches that access off in one go.
Connect never overwrites an existing file without asking. If it finds a configuration that belongs to a different account, or one that sends somewhere else, it says so and asks first, and it always writes a backup copy before it replaces or deletes anything.
What CS2 sends
The config file lists exactly which parts of the game CS2 may pass on. Nothing beyond that leaves your PC, and nothing at all is sent while CS2 is closed.
In a match CS2 sends roughly twice a second; in the main menu it sends a short sign of life every 30 seconds, which is what keeps the status line green between matches. When you die and watch a teammate, the numbers on your screen are the teammate's - FACEITSync recognises that and leaves your own stats alone instead of counting someone else's kills as yours.
Managing your accesses
The token is the secret inside the config file, and the only thing that tells FACEITSync which account the data belongs to. That makes the file personal: do not pass it on, and do not show it on stream. Every access in the list tells you four things.
Create one access per computer. That way you can switch off the laptop without touching the PC.
Revoke switches an access off for good and cannot be undone. Do it when a file has been on a computer you no longer use, or when you are not sure who had access to it. Afterwards delete the file from that CS2 folder; if you still want live data from that machine, create a new access and install it again.
Two things switch an access off without you opening this page: signing a Connect device out of your account, and Sign out everywhere else under Devices. Both affect only accesses that Connect created for that device. An access you made here in the browser stays active, because it may be installed on a completely different computer.
What works today and what is still coming
The section says this itself, in a blue box above the list: Functions available soon. What already works is the part you set up - the file, the connection, and the status line that shows the map and the round while you play. Everything announced on top of it, from live overlays and more finely tuned automatic predictions to creator tools and detailed match analyses, is not switched on yet.
So expect a working connection and a green status line today, not a new overlay. It is still worth doing early: when the features arrive, the file is already in place.
Why this needs Premium
Game State Integration is a Premium feature. Without Premium the section still shows the explanation, but neither the list of accesses nor the New token button is there - in their place sits a locked notice.
The check is repeated on every packet CS2 sends, not only once when you create the access. If Premium ends, an installed file stops being accepted and the status drops back to Not connected after about a minute. The file stays in your CS2 folder and works again as soon as Premium is active again, as long as you did not revoke the access in the meantime.
When no data arrives
Work down this list in order. The first two cover almost every case.
- Restart CS2. The game reads the file once, at startup. If CS2 was running while you installed it, nothing happens until you restart it and reach the main menu.
- Check the folder. The file belongs directly in
...\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\game\csgo\cfg\. If you are unsure whether you are in the right place: the filegameinfo.gisits one folder above thecfgfolder. - Check that the access is still active. A revoked access is marked Inactive, and its file sends into nothing. Create a new one and install it again.
- Check Premium. Without an active Premium subscription nothing is accepted, and CS2 gives no sign of it in game.
- Two Steam libraries, or CS2 installed twice? The Installer only searches a fixed list of the usual Steam folders. If yours is elsewhere it reports that CS2 was not found - copy the file across by hand, or let Connect pick the folder.
- An old file from an earlier version. A configuration file left over from an older install no longer works. Connect offers to replace it; by hand, overwrite it with the current config file.
- Did you move your FACEITSync profile to another Twitch account? Then the old access was deleted on purpose, so that CS2 cannot keep sending to the account you left. Download the config file again and put it back in your CS2 folder.
FAQ
Can this get me banned? No. Game State Integration is built into CS2 by Valve for exactly this purpose, and the page marks it as an official Valve function. Nothing is read out of the game and nothing is injected into it: CS2 decides what it sends, FACEITSync only receives it.
Do I need the Windows app? No. It is the comfortable way, but the config file from your settings does the same job.
What happens to the file if I uninstall FACEITSync Connect? It stays where it is. Uninstalling the app does not touch your CS2 folder, so CS2 carries on sending. Use Remove in the app's CS2 integration before you uninstall, or revoke the access in your settings afterwards.
Do my moderators see this? No. When someone manages your account as a moderator, this section is not shown to them at all, and the buttons behind it refuse them as well. Your token never appears on their screen.
Does it only work while I am streaming? No. CS2 sends whenever it is running with the file in place. Nothing here depends on your stream being live.
Is there a second place to check the state? Yes. Under Connections a Game State Integration card shows whether an access is set up and when data last arrived from it, with a shortcut to the config file and a Manage button back to this section.
Do I have to save? No. Every change on this page applies immediately.
